How Does RI Witness Work?
The Current System
Current regulations rely on a what is called “the human witness” system. A client provides sperm or eggs, the specimen is marked with the client's name, if transferred to another receptacle, that new receptacle is again marked with that patients' name, and two employees check the names to prevent a mistake from being made, and sign off on it. This system has performed well, but the risk of human error is enough of a threat to merit more security in the IVF lab.
How RI Witness solidifies this process
With RI Witness, we now provide an ID card an RFID chip, RI Witness captures the ID card number, which is used to centralize the data of each couple. Each piece of genetic material is held in a container with a matching RFID tag affixed to its bottom. When these samples are used at various lab stations, RI Witness permanently links the container with that patient, so that the tag numbers for both sperm and eggs are same patient account, contents for each container are only compatible with each other . When a specimen is sent to a lab, it passes several workstations, each equipped with an RFID reader., tracking al progress and handling along the way.
Start of Cycle
Each couple is assigned an ID card card, that contains a unique personal code, which they present at egg retrieval or sperm donation.
Process-to-Process Tracking
RI Witness RFID tags allows Blue Sky to identify, track and record when a sample is moved from one dish to another, each step of the process.
Mismatch
With this system, no two samples can be work on at the same time. An incompatible sample triggers an alarm, and causes a mandatory system shutdown.
Identity Validation
RI Witness validates the identity of the samples and allows the doctor to proceed to the next step (Insemination in this case.).
Total accountability throughout the entire IVF chain
The embryo’s location and all activity performed on that embryo, are logged automatically, as well as the time and date, as well as every operator that handled it. Our technology works independent of temperature, even in freezing conditions. This means our system works even if the embryo is cryopreserved.
